SUGEE SHUBHADA

Set within the culturally rich precinct of Dadar, Sugee Shubhada reimagines a 1940s-era residential building into a contemporary living space while preserving the deep-rooted connection its residents share with the neighbourhood. Designed by Studio Emergence, this redevelopment project is a thoughtful response to the evolving needs of urban living, delivered with sensitivity to scale, context, and community.

Once a modest structure overlooking Mahim Bay, the original building had deteriorated over decades, making restoration unviable. The new design embraces its sea-facing location while addressing the limitations of the past, introducing improved planning, cross ventilation, parking, and modern amenities, all within a constrained urban footprint.

Two compact apartment units are planned per floor, with configurations tailored to suit a mix of residents. Every home opens to the sea, with living areas and balconies oriented to maximise views and natural light. Angular windows and faceted balconies enhance the spatial experience, allowing residents to enjoy panoramic views from within.

The material palette is carefully selected for its durability and performance in a coastal environment. Powder-coated aluminium and high-pressure laminates protect the building envelope from corrosion, while wooden flutes offer shading without compromising airflow. Each balcony becomes a sculptural extension of the home—functional, expressive, and personal.

Sugee Shubhada is a quiet transformation—one that honours its past while building for the future. It reflects a renewed standard of urban housing where thoughtful design enables both legacy and modernity to coexist.
